The Alarm

The Alarm

I can't express how brilliant The Alarm were, but they gave me a much needed boost on Sunday afternoon. They were the second band I ever saw live, back in 1985 supporting U2 in Croke Park. And on the terrace he really could hear the crowd roar "68 guns."

The original line-up may be long gone, but the passion is still there. I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Mike Peters, and he still seems like he wants to get to know everyone in the audience. He seems to sing as if his life depends on it, which, as a survivor of cancer perhaps it does. And that's not meant to be taken in any way flippantly, as he has suffered from the form of the illness which I am most at risk of developing because of my Crohn's medication.

I was also quite moved when he dedicated Spirit of 76 to the late Stuart Adamson. I've been listening to And So I Watch You From Afar a lot lately, and the ghost of Stuart crops up a few times in their sound.

where was god that night

where was god that night

this is a double-exposure HOLGA shot.

In June 2005 there was a massive fire at a historical landmark building in Detroit. It was the Studebaker / Piquette building. It burned all night. I could watch the fire burn from my window which was only about a mile away.

This building was sentimental to me. It was the first abandoned building that I ever went inside... thanks to one of my photo-geek friends, Vanessa. This was also one of her favorite buildings.

It was an extremely hard fire to put out. So many firefighters risjked their lives to put out the blaze. The irony is- there was a church across the street from it. Where was god that night?
